About the position

The Department of Neurology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania is seeking candidates for an Associate Professor position on the tenure track, specializing in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) applications, particularly in the context of epilepsy and traumatic brain injury. The successful candidate will possess expertise in biomedical signal processing, including electroencephalography, and imaging analysis, with a focus on developing quantitative tools for analyzing magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data of individuals with neurological disorders. This position is critical for advancing the understanding and treatment of these conditions through innovative AI and ML methodologies. In this role, the Associate Professor will have teaching responsibilities that include instructing graduate students, residents, and post-doctoral fellows on topics related to AI and ML, specifically as they pertain to the analysis of multidimensional data relevant to human diseases. Teaching will occur through formal lectures and hands-on supervision of doctoral students and fellows, fostering an environment of learning and research. Research responsibilities will involve establishing an independent research program centered on AI and ML, with a particular emphasis on neuroimaging. The candidate is expected to secure extramural funding, primarily from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Department of Defense, to support their research initiatives. This includes overseeing postdoctoral fellows, students, and research staff, as well as coordinating collaborative research projects with local, national, and international partners. The successful candidate will also be involved in writing grants, reports, and manuscripts, contributing to the academic community and advancing the field of neurology through innovative research.
