About the position

The Associate Project Consultant in Materials at Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) is responsible for engaging in complex engineering projects that focus on materials science and engineering. This role involves evaluating and specifying materials, conducting failure analyses, and developing repair recommendations for various applications, including structural components and industrial products. The position emphasizes collaboration, communication with clients, and the management of laboratory and field studies to ensure successful project outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in projects involving materials science, primarily focusing on metals, polymers, and composites.
  • Evaluate and specify materials and processes for new designs.
  • Investigate existing materials applications and conduct failure analysis.
  • Develop repair recommendations for structural components and industrial products.
  • Manage tasks and communicate effectively with clients.
  • Prepare written reports and presentations for clients.
  • Conduct laboratory and field studies to support project objectives.
  • Plan and conduct site investigations to document existing conditions.
  • Manage and conduct laboratory tests and analyses.

Requirements

  • M.S. or PhD in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Structural Engineering, or a similar field.
  • 0 to 5 years of experience in materials science and engineering.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.

Nice-to-haves

  • Coursework in structural mechanics and design is preferred.
  • Experience with laboratory testing and analysis.
