About the position

The Associate, Project Development will support and manage the development of renewable energy projects across the Central region of the U.S. This role involves collaboration with various teams throughout the project lifecycle, from origination to commissioning, ensuring successful execution of solar, wind, and storage projects. The Associate will play a key role in identifying innovative project development strategies and managing stakeholder relationships to facilitate project success.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and support the development of complex large-scale renewable energy projects from initial project proposal to handover to construction.
  • Identify, propose, and implement creative project development approaches to reduce permitting risks and optimize schedules.
  • Support or manage due diligence on development-stage project and portfolio acquisitions.
  • Administer development services agreements with local/regional partners and manage local project stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the Land Acquisition team to secure site control for generation and interconnection facilities.
  • Evaluate site layouts, technology options, and interconnection applications with the engineering team and external consultants.
  • Coordinate project interconnection requests and necessary studies for securing project transmission.
  • Support negotiation and diligence of critical project contracts and agreements.
  • Assist in financing diligence efforts to secure cash equity, tax equity, and project debt commitments.
  • Coordinate with the Origination team on marketing development-stage projects for power purchase agreements.
  • Create and manage project budgets and schedules, navigating internal project reviews and investment decisions.
  • Prepare and present project development opportunities to management.
  • Maintain industry relationships and knowledge of market drivers to facilitate proactive development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, economics, finance, environmental science, or a related field.
  • Understanding of complex permitting pathways for energy projects in the central U.S.
  • Ability to travel as required to projects within the Central Region (10% - 25%).
  • Minimum of 2 years of applicable experience in the renewable energy industry in the U.S.
  • Experience with land development, including landowner engagement and negotiation.
  • Strong project management skills, including managing schedules and budgets.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced study in business, finance, law, environmental science, or public policy.
  • Knowledge of governmental mandates and environmental regulations impacting renewable projects in the East Region.
  • Battery storage experience.
  • Familiarity with PJM, NYISO, and/or ISO-NE power and transmission markets.
