About the position

The Associate Project Director / Office Manager at COWI in San Diego is a leadership role responsible for managing the San Diego office and overseeing engineering staff and operations. This position involves managing a portfolio of projects, developing project management best practices, and contributing to business development and strategic management initiatives. The role requires a strong background in civil or structural engineering, project management, and the ability to foster relationships with clients and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the San Diego office and oversee engineering staff and operations.
  • Manage assigned projects' portfolio and develop project management best practices.
  • Develop and implement project Action Plans in conjunction with VPs.
  • Provide leadership in Distributed Engineering between COWI offices.
  • Assist in the assignment of resources and key staff to projects.
  • Lead various strategic initiatives as assigned by the VP.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of Best Practices across COWI groups.
  • Perform project engineering duties in accordance with the Company Quality System, including structural engineering calculations, analysis, and design.
  • Provide leadership in business development and marketing activities, including identifying and pursuing project opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain relations with specified key clients.
  • Participate in regional management strategy meetings and contribute to achieving strategic objectives.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • 9+ years of related experience in Marine Project Management or equivalent.
  • Professional Engineer status in CA; licenses in other US states are considered an asset.
  • Experience with local clients, including NAVFAC.
  • Proven ability to prepare proposals and review agreement terms.
  • Self-motivated, flexible, and able to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work with remote staff.
  • Willingness to travel predominantly in North America.
