About the position

The Associate Project Research Manager (Epidemiology Operations) at Optum is responsible for managing epidemiology projects and ensuring their successful execution. This role involves overseeing project timelines, budgets, and compliance while coordinating with various stakeholders to deliver high-quality research outcomes. The position emphasizes risk management and operational excellence in the context of epidemiological studies, contributing to the mission of improving health outcomes through rigorous research.

Responsibilities

  • Manage Epidemiology projects and key deliverables.
  • Lead day-to-day operational management for assigned Epidemiology projects, ensuring adherence to SOPs and contractual requirements.
  • Act as primary coordinator for study sponsors, study teams, and other internal/external third parties.
  • Manage project plans, timelines, financials, scope, quality, and compliance.
  • Coordinate data collection activities, including subcontractor contracts and performance management.
  • Identify necessary reviews and approvals and facilitate study submission in collaboration with the project team.
  • Provide timely and accurate status reporting of milestones, risks, and finances to key stakeholders.
  • Ensure all project documentation is maintained and reflective of the current project status; lead internal/external audits as needed.
  • Contribute to the development of resources and guidelines for the Epidemiology department.
  • Operational development of proposals, budgets, and contracts for new opportunities.

Requirements

  • 2+ years in a client-facing, project management role for all phases of project cycle.
  • 2+ years of experience with contracting and operational business development of proposals and budgets.
  • 2+ years of experience managing relationships with cross-functional teams and external partners.
  • Familiarity with epidemiology research and administrative claims.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience responding to audits.
  • Experience mentoring junior staff.
  • Experience maintaining institutional review board approval and compliance needs.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Project, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Ability to work from the Boston office on occasion.
