About the position

The Associate Provost for the Arts and Director of the OSU Museum of Art at Oklahoma State University will provide innovative leadership and advocacy to enrich and integrate art throughout the OSU System and surrounding communities. This inaugural position also includes the Marilynn and Carl Thoma Professorship of the Arts, with responsibilities that encompass transdisciplinary collaboration, student and faculty engagement in the arts, and oversight of various OSU facilities related to the arts.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and advocacy for the integration of art across the OSU System.
  • Encourage and support transdisciplinary work and research in the arts.
  • Facilitate student and faculty engagement in the arts.
  • Oversee the operations of the OSU Museum of Art, Doel Reed Center, and Prairie Arts Center.
  • Lead fundraising initiatives for the arts across the university.
  • Develop and implement the strategic mission for the museum.
  • Administer the museum's fiscal activity and manage staff and volunteers.
  • Ensure the museum's accreditation with the American Alliance of Museums is maintained.
  • Advise the Provost on arts policy, resources, and initiatives.
  • Promote the arts across the university and integrate them into curricula.

Requirements

  • Three to five years of experience as an administrator at a college or university (e.g., head/chair of department, associate or assistant dean, director of a museum).
  • Advanced degree in art history, museum studies, or a related field.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Deep interest in art and commitment to sharing knowledge with others.
  • Commitment to student learning and success.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across colleges and the OSU System.
  • Experience in fundraising and grant-writing.
  • Curatorial experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Five to seven years of experience as an administrator at a college or university.
  • Terminal degree in art history, museum studies, or a related field.
  • Established track record in fundraising, grant-writing, and donor relations.
