About the position

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is seeking an engineer to join the Plant Analysis Unit in Fleet Reactor Engineering. This role involves leading and supporting evaluations of various reactor operations and transients, contributing to the safety and reliability of naval nuclear reactors. The position offers an opportunity to develop analytical skills and gain a comprehensive understanding of different reactor designs while working collaboratively with a team of professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support evaluations of reactor operations and transients.
  • Develop and analyze thermal hydraulic models.
  • Understand and communicate nuclear plant accident progression.
  • Develop scripts to run models and post-process results.
  • Document different analyses and communicate results to coworkers and managers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a science-related field; or a Master's degree in engineering or a science-related field.
  • Experience with thermal-hydraulic analysis, scripting, and coding, preferably with reactor safety computer codes such as RELAP5-3D or MELCOR.
  • Strong interest in fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and thermodynamics.
  • Ability to understand large and complex systems including fluids, heat transfer, instrumentation, and control systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with MATLAB or Python for post-processing.
  • Familiarity with reactor safety computer codes.
