About the position

The Associate Research Scientist position at Columbia University's Department of Dermatology focuses on investigating adult mammalian stem cell homeostasis and the mechanistic regulation of adult cutaneous epithelial niches. The role aims to understand how dysregulation during aging affects tissue integrity, function, and cancer. This position offers a dynamic research environment with opportunities for diverse basic, pre-clinical, and clinical research experience, along with excellent mentoring.

Responsibilities

  • Perform rigorous cell biology, biochemistry, and bioinformatic analyses using well-defined mouse models targeting specific stem cell niches in the adult skin.
  • Handle bioinformatic analyses focused primarily on single-cell and bulk RNAseq data sets.
  • Conduct standard bioinformatic analysis including differential expression, basic classification, genomics, and data visualization.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. or equivalent in a relevant field.
  • Strong laboratory and analytical skills.
  • Experience with bioinformatics, particularly in transcriptomics and genomics.
  • Familiarity with RNAseq data structure and analysis.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as R, Perl, Java, or Python.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience in systems biology.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Benefits

  • Excellent mentoring opportunities.
  • Access to multidisciplinary resources in a dynamic research environment.
