About the position

The Associate Research Analyst position at the State of Connecticut's Office of Policy and Management (OPM) is designed to leverage data and analytics to inform state policies and programs. This role involves working within the Data and Policy Analytics Division (DAPA) to contribute to projects that collect, analyze, and disseminate data, particularly for the P20 WIN system. The analyst will play a key role in designing and analyzing data to support sound policy-making and ensure individuals can navigate supportive services and educational pathways into the workforce.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement analysis and applied research projects, including as part of the P20 WIN learning agenda.
  • Assist in comprehensive and complex analytical assignments across agencies.
  • Develop procedures to streamline or automate reporting from agency and public data sources.
  • Prepare narrative and statistical reports.
  • Develop computerized databases and analyze and interpret computer-generated reports.
  • Learn and document state and agency policies and procedures regarding privacy, security, and confidentiality.
  • Serve as liaison and coordinator for analytics and applied research projects with agency staff and external stakeholders.
  • Attend regular project meetings with agencies and provide updates, presentations, and other materials.

Requirements

  • Seven (7) years of professional experience in research, data analysis, or economics.
  • One (1) year of the General Experience must have been conducting research at the level of a Research Analyst.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience developing and conducting applied research projects using administrative data, preferably in education, workforce development, or health and human services.
  • Experience in state, municipal, or federal government.
  • Experience with longitudinal or integrated data systems, including data governance and data matching processes.
  • Experience using tools such as R, SAS, Python, Stata, and/or SPSS for data preparation and analysis.
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau or DataWrapper.
  • Experience with quantitative and qualitative methods, including advanced statistical or econometric concepts.
