About the position

Columbia University's Department of Medicine, Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care, is seeking applications for the position of Associate Research Scientist. This role is part of a multidisciplinary research collaboration focused on tuberculosis (TB) epidemiology. The research group aims to leverage the intersection of clinical science, pathogen genomics, immunology, and microbiology to enhance understanding and translate knowledge into impactful solutions for TB epidemics on a global scale. Current projects include longitudinal treatment cohorts of drug-resistant TB/HIV, the development of novel diagnostics for drug-resistant TB, studies on MTB genomic evolution, TB transmission, emergent drug resistance, and advanced diagnostics for TB bacteremia and meningitis. Collaborations extend to regions such as South Africa, Uganda, Ethiopia, and New York City, with funding primarily sourced from the NIH and various private foundations. Candidates will engage in epidemiologic and translational research, which encompasses developing research protocols, designing and conducting studies, interpreting data, and preparing presentations, grants, and manuscripts for publication. Responsibilities also include critically reviewing published literature, presenting research findings at local and national conferences, participating in laboratory meetings, and training and supervising undergraduate and graduate students. This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in applying multidisciplinary methods and molecular approaches to the epidemiology of infectious diseases. The Associate Research Scientist position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement between the University and Columbia Postdoctoral Workers-UAW Local 4100.
