About the position

Innova Solutions is seeking an Associate Research Scientist to join our team in Seattle, Washington. This position is a contract role lasting 12 months and requires the candidate to work onsite. The Associate Research Scientist will be responsible for the routine analysis of vector samples to assess quality attributes in support of process development studies. This will involve utilizing biophysical techniques and cell-based assays, including culturing primary cells, staining, and conducting flow cytometry. The role will also involve hands-on experimental work focused on the development and optimization of both upstream and downstream unit operations for viral vector production. This includes tasks such as cell culture, transfection conditions, clarification, tangential flow filtration, and chromatography. The successful candidate will be expected to design, plan, execute, and analyze laboratory experiments, manage the inventory of samples and materials, and ensure proper handling and storage of these materials. Documentation is a critical aspect of this role, and the Associate Research Scientist will be required to maintain accurate records of experimental results using an electronic lab notebook. Additionally, the candidate will summarize and present scientific data, reporting results to project teams. Maintaining a safe work environment in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulations is also a key responsibility of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Routine analysis of vector samples for quality attributes in support of process development studies using biophysical techniques and cell-based assays.
  • Culturing primary cells, staining, and conducting flow cytometry.
  • Perform hands-on experimental work in the development and optimization of upstream and downstream unit operations for viral vector production.
  • Design, plan, execute, and analyze lab experiments.
  • Manage inventory of samples and materials and ensure proper handling and storage.
  • Maintain proper documentation of experimental results using an electronic lab notebook.
  • Summarize and present scientific data; report results to project teams.
  • Maintain a safe work environment in accordance with policies, procedures, and regulations.

Requirements

  • M.S. or B.S. in Biological or Chemical Engineering, Virology, Molecular or Cellular Biology, Biochemistry, or related discipline.
  • Hands-on experience with analytical techniques and instrumentation for proteins, cells, and/or viral vectors.
  • Excellent aseptic technique and experience with mammalian and/or primary cell culture.
  • Experience with flow cytometry instrumentation, maintenance, and software (FlowJo).
  • Experience in upstream and/or downstream bioprocess development.
  • Ability to use scientific principles and engineering fundamentals to solve problems.
