About the position

The Associate Research Scientist at Brandeis University will lead independent research projects in the Biology lab, collaborating closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) to conceptualize and execute experiments. This role involves data analysis, training lab members, and managing lab operations, with a strong emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion within the research environment.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out an independent research project, conceptualizing experiments and performing data analyses in collaboration with PI Piali Sengupta.
  • Independently perform experiments, analyze results, and design follow-up experiments.
  • Learn new technological methods and implement them in the lab.
  • Present results in oral form at lab meetings, Brandeis forums, and public scientific conferences.
  • Assist with and supervise research projects of other lab members, providing input and ideas.
  • Devise optimal approaches to meet the scope of work and ensure timely high-quality submissions and deliverables.
  • Author and/or co-author reports, papers, and presentations, typically co-authoring peer-reviewed papers.
  • Prepare abstracts, summaries, and results; present and publish findings.
  • Provide training to new lab members in molecular biology, genetics, and neuroscience.
  • Manage lab operations, including maintenance of C. elegans strains and overseeing advanced lab equipment.

Requirements

  • PhD in Biology or related field.
  • 1-3 years of related work experience required.
  • Ability to work at the lab bench and at microscopes for extended periods of time.
  • Exposure to lab chemicals and recombinant DNA.
