About the position

The position involves working as a scientist in the Lilly Innovation Center, focusing on the development of RNA oligonucleotide drug candidates. The successful candidate will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to perform experiments, analyze data, and contribute to the advancement of RNA therapies. The role emphasizes a strong research background in biology, analytical skills, and a commitment to a diverse and inclusive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • In vitro screening and evaluation of oligonucleotide therapeutics (e.g. mammalian cell culture, transfection, cell assay, etc.)
  • Perform downstream biochemical assays to evaluate drug candidates (RNA isolation, RT-qPCR, Western blot, ELISA)
  • Optimize existing characterization methods and processes and generate standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Onboarding and operating automation equipment for cell culture assays
  • Assist in troubleshooting technical challenges and provide scientific and technical input to project teams
  • Help design and complete experiments and perform data analysis
  • Provide conceptual contribution into experimental design, integrated data analysis and communication of results to scientific teams and management
  • Provide written and verbal communication of work in lab reports and team meetings
  • Accurate recording of all practical work: completion of electronic notebook to Lilly procedure quality standards
  • General laboratory assistance, including ordering and receiving lab supplies, preparation of reagents, and maintain laboratory equipment
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations
  • Passionate about contributing to the lab in a diverse and inclusive environment every day

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, or related scientific field
  • 1+ years of work experience in the pharmaceutical industry, an academic laboratory, or similar settings

Nice-to-haves

  • Solid understanding of RNA biology and RNA therapeutics
  • Experience with laboratory automation equipment and/or automated cell culture practices
  • Ability to adapt and exercise flexibility for changing platform needs, workflows and projects
  • Ability to craft, complete and interpret experiments independently, and to advance scientific understanding
  • Excellent communication skills and efficiency in collaborating across functional boundaries and in team environment
  • Strong organization skills, attention to detail, critical thinking, multitasking, desire to learn new techniques and contribute to innovative projects in a fast-paced working environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Experience in processing, organizing, analyzing and visualizing data and information from disparate sources and ability to extract insight from data
  • Familiar with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and analytical software associated with methods.
