About the position

The Associate Scientist, Molecular Biology and Assay Development at Eurofins USA Discovery Services plays a crucial role in supporting molecular biology and cell line development activities. This position involves executing molecular cloning, characterizing and validating cell lines, and gene delivery using various methods. The role is integral to the Eurofins DiscoverX R&D Department, contributing to drug discovery research and positively impacting human health worldwide.

Responsibilities

  • Actively maintain the Eurofins DiscoverX plasmid collection, fulfilling requests and generating additional quantities of plasmids.
  • Design and generate mammalian expression constructs, optimizing DNA sequences and confirming in-frame fusions.
  • Use bioinformatics tools for executing and confirming cloning projects.
  • Submit samples to external DNA sequencing partners and evaluate returned data.
  • Perform PCR on genomic DNA to confirm stable integration of genes and quantitative PCR to confirm gene expression.
  • Perform RNA extraction and quantify gene expression by qRT-PCR.
  • Generate Biosafety Documentation.
  • Conduct routine cell culture and stable pool and clone development of engineered cells.
  • Characterize engineered cell lines using molecular, biochemical, and cell biology techniques.
  • Perform cell-based assays using established Eurofins DiscoverX assays and report results to management.
  • Prepare and present experimental data at regular group meetings.
  • Meet product development goals set by the management team.
  • Support the R&D team with ordering and maintenance of reagents, supplies, and equipment.
  • Maintain accurate notes and records, ensuring effective communication.
  • Document cloning and laboratory work using internal databases and electronic lab notebooks.

Requirements

  • B.S. or M.S. in molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, immunology or related discipline.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years as a molecular biology contributor.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience of basic methods for molecular biology (restriction enzymes, subcloning, agarose gels, analysis of DNA sequencing, minipreps, PCR).
  • Experience using bioinformatics tools (including SnapGene and NCBI databases) for executing and confirming cloning projects.
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture (preferably with both adherent and suspension cells).
  • Authorization to work in the US without sponsorship.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to perform experiments and analyze resulting data with minimal guidance.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience planning and troubleshooting subcloning projects.
  • Experience in quantitative PCR (qPCR) and reverse transcriptase-PCR (qRT-PCR).
  • Industry experience is preferred.
  • Skills in Western blotting, immunofluorescence microscopy, and flow cytometry.
