About the position

ElevateBio is seeking a motivated Associate Scientist (Contract) to join the Next-Generation Sequencing Core. The successful candidate will focus on supporting advanced NGS workflows with an emphasis on amplicon sequencing, automation technologies, and working with the Illumina platform to generate high-quality data. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of cell, gene, and related therapies for patients with severe and life-threatening disorders.

Responsibilities

  • Execute NGS workflows with a primary focus on production amplicon sequencing and other targeted sequencing approaches using the Illumina platform.
  • Leverage automation technologies (e.g. liquid handlers, robotic platforms such as Beckman Biomek i7) to streamline NGS library preparation and sample handling for high-throughput sequencing applications.
  • Collaborate with bioinformatics and internal clients to generate, process, and interpret both NGS data and additional molecular assays.
  • Troubleshoot sequencing workflows, including library preparation, data generation and quality control processes, to ensure smooth operations and recommend innovative approaches based on experimental data or new scientific information while maintaining project timelines.
  • Operate, monitor, and maintain NGS and other workflow associated instrumentation particularly Illumina sequencers, ensuring high uptime and accurate results.
  • Keep an excellent electronic lab notebook (eLN) compliant with company record keeping policies and best practices in the field.
  • Contribute to general lab management (ordering, organization, optimization).

Requirements

  • A BS with 1-2 years experience.
  • Knowledgeable in molecular biology techniques, including PCR amplification and purification with use of magnetic beads.
  • Hands-on experience with next generation sequencing instrumentation, protocols, and troubleshooting is preferred.
  • Experience with instrument automation for library preparation (Beckman Biomek i7) is preferred.
  • Outstanding communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Ability to multi-task and coordinate work on several simultaneous projects.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a dynamic, cross-functional matrix environment.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on producing high-quality, reproducible results.
