About the position
The Associate Scientist (R1) position in Upstream Vaccines and Advanced Biotechnologies Process Development involves supporting the discovery and development efforts for vaccine programs. The role focuses on lab-scale process development, scale-up studies, and the creation of efficient cell culture processes for vaccine production. The successful candidate will work in a multi-disciplinary environment, contributing expertise to various teams and ensuring compliance with cGMP standards while maintaining laboratory safety.
Responsibilities
- Perform lab-scale process development and scale-up studies for vaccine production.
- Develop robust and efficient scalable cell culture processes.
- Participate in the manufacture of cGMP clinical bulks.
- Transfer processes to clinical or commercial manufacturing facilities for vaccine candidates.
- Conduct lab-scale fermentation and cell culture.
- Provide in-process assay support and process scale-up engineering.
- Prepare and modify cGMP documentation.
- Maintain and coordinate raw material and equipment inventories.
- Support technology transfer to manufacturing facilities.
- Convey results of work in both verbal and written formats.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Cell Biology, Biological Sciences, Biotechnology).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Self-motivation, adaptability, and a positive attitude.
- Proven ability to work in a hands-on laboratory setting.
- Effective organization and interpersonal skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Nice-to-haves
- Direct experience with cell culture (CHO) and fermentation.
- Experience in upstream process development or expression system development for vaccines and/or biologics.
- Experience working with viral systems in a BSL-2 environment.
