About the position

The Associate/Senior Associate Director of Operations and Assessment for Career Services at Colgate University is a pivotal leadership role within the Dean of the College division. This position is designed for an experienced professional who will oversee the operations and assessment of the Career Services department, which has recently launched a four-year career development model under Colgate's Third Century Plan. The successful candidate will be responsible for enhancing the already strong program that engages over 80% of students in intentional and individualized career journeys, leading to meaningful post-graduate outcomes. The role requires a strong competency in assessment, operational management, interpersonal communications, and leadership, with a focus on addressing historical inequities in career services. The Associate Director will provide vision and leadership for departmental operations and student engagement assessment, directly overseeing the administration of internship grants and fellowship initiatives. They will develop sophisticated strategies to track and assess student engagement, utilizing predictive, causal, and correlational analyses to inform effective programming and advising. The position also involves preparing analyses and reports for campus leadership to demonstrate outcomes and opportunities, as well as assisting colleagues in developing initiatives with clear learning outcomes. In addition to operational responsibilities, the Associate Director will manage hiring, supervision, and performance management of direct and indirect reports, including professional staff and student interns. They will create application processes for internship grants, facilitate candidate selection, and ensure compliance with Colgate policies regarding grant disbursement. The role also includes overseeing the creation and execution of alumni and parent-led career programming, managing front desk operations, and collaborating with the Office of Communications to enhance student engagement with Career Services resources.

Responsibilities

  • Provide vision and leadership related to departmental operations and student engagement assessment.
  • Oversee the administration of Career Services' internship grant and fellowship initiatives.
  • Develop strategies to identify, track, and assess student engagement for the Career Services team.
  • Deploy predictive, causal, and correlational analyses to inform Career Services programming and advising.
  • Prepare analyses and reports to educate campus leadership on outcomes and opportunities.
  • Assist departmental colleagues in developing initiatives with clear learning outcomes.
  • Serve as a primary system administrator for Career Services' student data systems, troubleshooting system functionality with external vendors.
  • Hire, supervise, and manage performance of direct and indirect reports, including professional staff and student interns.
  • Create application processes for internship grants and facilitate candidate selection.
  • Recruit, train, and manage selection committees for internship and grant selection.
  • Steward endowed and current use funds in compliance with Federal and State laws.
  • Oversee the creation and execution of alumni/parent-led career exploration and industry programming.
  • Support front desk management and Benton Hall building management in partnership with the office manager.
  • Develop communications to increase student awareness and engagement with Career Services resources.

Requirements

  • Prior experience directly supervising colleagues and managing teams to produce high quality work.
  • Data assessment experience with the ability to synthesize and analyze quantitative and qualitative data; proficiency in Excel is required.
  • Two or more years of project or event management experience.
  • Ability to concurrently manage multiple projects independently.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Passion for the advantages of a liberal arts degree and the ability to communicate its value proposition.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior student affairs and/or advising, career services, or recruitment experience.
  • Prior volunteer management experience, especially with a traditional college-aged student population.
  • CRM technology experience is helpful.
