About the position

The Associate, Strategic Initiatives is a pivotal role within Oldcastle's Architectural Product Group, aimed at bolstering the company's competitive edge in the global building product market. This position is designed for a high-performing, self-driven individual who is eager to contribute to a dynamic manufacturing environment. The Associate will engage in various strategic initiatives that encompass organic and inorganic strategies, capital investment evaluations, and strategic planning. The role requires a blend of analytical skills, communication prowess, and a proactive approach to problem-solving, making it ideal for someone who thrives in fast-paced and ambiguous settings. The Associate will support the analysis and implementation of strategic priorities, which include evaluating new markets and products, conducting market research, and performing operational analyses to optimize product allocation within the manufacturing network. Additionally, the role involves interviewing customers to identify pain points and potential solutions, thereby enhancing the company's market responsiveness. In terms of capital investment, the Associate will evaluate market demand and supply to inform investment decisions for the next 5 to 10 years. This includes authoring memorandums for major capital expenditure approvals and utilizing data analytics to guide site selection. The position also entails supporting the implementation of commercial and operational excellence initiatives, collaborating with APG's operating companies to develop tailored strategic plans for each market and business. Furthermore, the Associate will play a crucial role in the integration of new acquisitions and the evaluation of APG's existing portfolio, ensuring that strategic initiatives are effectively communicated and executed across the organization. This multifaceted role is integral to driving significant impact within the company and requires a combination of intelligence, grit, and a data-driven mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Learn the intricacies of a global building product enterprise and become a key member of a team that captures insights, guides decisions, and drives significant impact.
  • Support communication, analysis, and presentation of strategic initiatives across APG and up to CRH's leadership, including preparing financial models and presentation documents.
  • Conduct analysis, research (both internal and external), and critical assessment to prioritize a portfolio of impactful initiatives, strategic projects, and investment opportunities.
  • Support customized integration and implementation efforts related to new acquisitions, major capital projects, and strategic pilots, participating in problem-solving sessions to support APG's President.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business Management, or Finance preferred.
  • Two+ years of experience in any combination of investment banking, corporate finance, consulting or business development.
  • Exposure to experiences that have built genuine business acumen across multiple functions.
  • Strength with financial modeling, commercial diagnostics, and operational analysis.
  • Distinctive Excel and PowerPoint skills.
  • Comfort operating in ambiguous environments and managing multiple workstreams simultaneously.
  • Desire to work in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment.
