About the position

The Associate Systems Engineer - Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) at Northrop Grumman is responsible for ensuring that electromagnetic environmental effects are properly integrated into system designs. This role involves writing and interpreting E3 requirements, conducting analyses, and presenting findings to both internal and external stakeholders. The engineer will also develop guidelines, prepare test procedures, and mentor less experienced engineers, contributing to the overall expertise in E3 engineering within the company.

Responsibilities

  • Write, interpret, allocate, tailor, and flow down E3 requirements to all design levels.
  • Communicate complex technical issues clearly to audiences unfamiliar with E3 topics.
  • Present at design reviews regarding E3 issues to internal and external customers.
  • Write E3 design guidelines and develop models for analysis using EMI principles.
  • Design ground systems, chassis and harness shielding, and EMI filters.
  • Prepare and review E3 test procedures, reports, and technical analyses.
  • Participate in cross-discipline design reviews for EMC compliance.
  • Design E3 test procedures and participate in E3 testing according to standards like MIL-STD 461 and MIL-STD 464.
  • Train and mentor less experienced E3 engineers.
  • Develop processes, procedures, documentation, and protocols for E3 engineering.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline.
  • Must have a DoD Secret clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain an interim Top Secret clearance.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialty in Electromagnetics, RF, or analog circuitry.
  • Experience with MIL-STD-464 or MIL-STD-461.
  • Experience in RF, Test, or design engineering.
  • Familiarity with defense and aerospace industry practices and programmatic skills for E3 compliance.
  • Extensive design experience with EMI filters, circuit layout, and analysis for E3.
  • Working knowledge of modeling and simulation of E3 using commercially available software.
