About the position

Para Los Niños (PLN) is seeking an Associate Teacher to join our team. Founded in 1980, PLN provides education and wraparound support to over 10,000 children, youth, and families annually in underserved areas of Los Angeles. The Associate Teacher will work under the supervision of the Area Supervisor, responsible for planning and supervising large and small group activities for students. This role involves implementing the program's goals through developmentally appropriate activities that are physically, intellectually, and creatively stimulating. The Associate Teacher will support the Area Supervisor in all aspects of program administration and goals.

Responsibilities

  • Support with daily expanded learning programming including after school, weekend, and intersession programming throughout the year.
  • Participate in creating weekly age-appropriate curriculum to nurture and stimulate the social, cognitive, and cultural needs of students.
  • Complete attendance records and maintain up-to-date emergency forms, lesson plans, and individual child development profiles.
  • Provide homework assistance and tutoring for students.
  • Regularly assess students to inform and refine instruction to best meet student needs.
  • Prepare and implement academic and social enrichment activities.
  • Work cooperatively with team teaching staff to review student progress and co-plan weekly activities.
  • Assist in guiding parents during orientation of the program.
  • Meet with staff weekly to review announcements, schedules, and program updates.
  • Complete checklist to ensure that the classroom is kept neat and orderly.
  • Document and report all incidents, accidents, or behavioral outbursts.
  • Complete daily, weekly, and monthly logs and reports as requested by the supervisor.
  • Work with teachers and school staff to build and support positive behavior expectations.
  • Reinforce school-wide procedures and expectations throughout the campus.
  • Assist in developing short- and long-term goals for individual students and overall groups.
  • Participate in supervision meetings with the site supervisor.
  • Provide supervision and care to students in the classroom and participate in classroom and outdoor activities.
  • Complete daily ratio counts and ensure ratios are met.
  • Report any issues of concern to the supervisor.
  • Complete daily health checks regarding hygiene, safety, and overall well-being of children.
  • Complete incident reports when incidents occur.
  • Participate regularly in professional development opportunities.

Requirements

  • Strong commitment to the mission, policies, goals, and philosophy of Para Los Niños.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) with the ability to translate preferred.
  • English proficiency supporting professional-level verbal and written communication required.
  • Computer literate with experience in MS Word, MS Excel, ZOOM, share drive, and data management systems.
  • Organized, flexible, and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to show good judgment and decision-making skills consistently.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple and diverse priorities.

Nice-to-haves

  • 1 year experience working with students and/or youth.
  • Current certification in CPR/First Aid.
