About the position

The Associate Teacher (Early Childhood Program Specialist 2) for the Infant/Toddler/Preschool Head Start program at Community Colleges of Spokane plays a vital role in supporting the educational and developmental needs of young children. This position involves working under the supervision of the Center Manager and daily direction of the Lead Teacher to implement educational curricula and manage classroom operations effectively. The Associate Teacher is dedicated to fostering a nurturing environment that promotes child growth and development, particularly for low-income families, and engages parents in the educational process.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in classroom and outside daily routines and activities, utilizing these routines to support individual learning opportunities.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and documentation of an early childhood curriculum.
  • Assist in assessing the developmental needs of infants, toddlers, and/or preschoolers, tracking individual progress through ongoing assessments.
  • Assist in conducting developmental screenings, providing referrals, and arranging follow-up services, ensuring parental involvement in curriculum planning and child observations.
  • Promote and protect children's health by adhering to Individual Health Plans (IHP) and special dietary needs, attending to children's personal needs as part of primary caregiving.
  • Participate in case management, home visits, center conferences, and the development and implementation of Children's Individual Plans (CIP) and family transition plans with the Direct Service Team.
  • Assist with maintaining required documentation, records, and supplies.
  • Maintain required records and other information as requested.
  • Provide feedback to ECE student teachers as needed.
  • Assist and/or perform the work of the Lead Teacher when necessary.
  • Work effectively as a member of a classroom and direct services team to provide integrated, comprehensive services to children and families.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships within the community, representing and promoting HS/EHS at community events and committees as assigned.
  • Stay informed by attending all necessary training and meetings and reading all written program updates.

Requirements

  • Experience working with young children in an educational setting.
  • Knowledge of early childhood development and education principles.
  • Ability to assess and document children's developmental progress.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with children, families, and team members.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to health and safety regulations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with children with disabilities.
  • Familiarity with Head Start/Early Head Start programs.
  • Certification in CPR and First Aid.
