About the position

ANSER is seeking an Associate Technical Writer/Graphic Designer to assist the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO). The OCIO is responsible for developing and maintaining a comprehensive, DHS-wide Information Technology (IT) infrastructure environment that is reliable, accessible, and secure. This role is crucial in ensuring operational excellence across various platforms, from workstations to data centers and mission applications. The Associate Technical Writer/Graphic Designer will play a key role in drafting, editing, and producing highly technical publications that support the mission of the DHS. This position requires a blend of technical writing and graphic design skills to effectively communicate complex information in a clear and visually appealing manner. In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for producing high-quality graphics, including flowcharts and process charts, which will be included in various DHS publications, briefings, and presentations. The position also involves providing one-on-one consultations to assess and interpret visual needs, applying design principles to create succinct visual representations that support the Visual Analytic mission. The Associate Technical Writer/Graphic Designer will establish proposed timelines for creative materials, ensuring that management and client expectations are met. Additionally, the role includes managing all aspects of producing visual information for both print and online uses, which encompasses the design, creation, and preparation of support visuals.

Responsibilities

  • Draft, edit, and produce highly technical publications for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO).
  • Produce high quality graphics to include flowcharts and process charts for inclusion in DHS publications, briefings, and presentations.
  • Provide one-on-one consultations to assess, interpret, and develop visuals as needed to support the Visual Analytic mission.
  • Establish proposed timelines for creative materials for management and client consideration.
  • Help manage all aspects of producing visual information for print and online uses, including the design, creation, and preparation of support visuals.

Requirements

  • BA Degree and four years of professional experience combined in technical writing and graphic design.
  • Ability to acquire and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
  • Excellent written communication skills; must be deadline oriented with the ability to work with tight turnarounds.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, including executive briefings, standard operating procedures (SOP), and training presentations.
  • Working knowledge of production to include print, binding, and finishing equipment.
  • Knowledge of photography, video production, and social media platforms is a plus.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills; ability to work in a team environment.
  • Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office Suite.
