About the position

DUAL North America, Inc. is seeking an Associate Underwriter to join its subsidiary Catalytic on the Earthquake division. This position is based in either Chicago, IL or San Diego, CA, and offers a hybrid work environment. The Associate Underwriter will play a crucial role in supporting the underwriting team by reviewing policy issuances, conducting inspection reviews, and assisting with submissions. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a basic understanding of technical underwriting principles and risk characteristics, while also being self-motivated and detail-oriented. This role is designed for individuals who are eager to learn about market dynamics and develop business relationships with producers. The Associate Underwriter will also be responsible for generating and editing correspondence on behalf of the underwriters, processing endorsements, and providing backup support when underwriters are traveling. This position requires excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently in a small office environment. Responsibilities

  • Review and correspond on policy issuances.
  • Conduct inspection reviews and analysis to identify issues and process necessary changes post-inspection.
  • Assist underwriters as requested.
  • Process submissions and provide account triage for underwriters.
  • Provide backup support for underwriters when they are traveling in the market.
  • Gather and compile information required to quote and/or bind an account.
  • Generate, edit, and send out various correspondence on behalf of the underwriters, including declination letters and quote follow-ups.
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of technical underwriting principles and risk characteristics.
  • Learn about market dynamics, competitive landscape, and product differences.
  • Provide customer service and underwriting support to achieve new and renewal premium goals.
  • Work with underwriters to develop business relationships with producers.
  • Travel with an underwriter as needed.
  • Perform clerical and administrative duties such as processing endorsements.
  • Fill in for team members to ensure business continuity during peak periods.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or 2 to 4 years of insurance experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of insurance terminology.
  • Typing proficiency of at least 35 wpm.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Agency Management System(s).
  • Experience working in a paperless environment preferred.
  • Ability to follow policies and procedures accurately and on time.
  • Self-motivated with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently for extended periods.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a general understanding of business writing.
