About the position

The Associate Underwriter position at Missouri Employers Mutual is responsible for managing a Workers Compensation book of business, focusing on developing and maintaining relationships with independent agencies. This role involves assessing risk acceptance, managing policy issuance and renewals, and providing excellent service to producers and policyholders. The Associate Underwriter will work within a team environment and handle a significant volume of communications related to underwriting decisions and policy management.

Responsibilities

  • Build and manage a Workers Compensation book of business.
  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with independent agencies.
  • Determine risk acceptance based on thorough analysis of risk exposures and existing loss controls.
  • Manage accounts with estimated annual premiums below $10,000, and assist with higher premium accounts as needed.
  • Review new business and renewal proposals for acceptability and completeness.
  • Provide price quotations for underwriters and refer complex cases to senior colleagues.
  • Gather, monitor, and analyze risk data, recommending further investigation as necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory rules, policies, and procedures in daily activities.
  • Issue policy corrections or change endorsements accurately.
  • Correspond with agents and policyholders regarding coverage acceptance, endorsements, and pricing.
  • Prepare documents and reports using standard office software.
  • Participate in training and development activities to enhance skills and knowledge.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, Insurance and Risk Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of one year of general workers compensation and/or other insurance experience, with an emphasis on property and casualty.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
  • Valid driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Insurance industry coursework, such as INS or AU, is desired.
  • Pursuit of CPCU designation is encouraged.
