About the position

The Associate Underwriter position at Highmark Health involves analyzing risk factors associated with new enrollments, annual renewals, and amendments of group or individual insurance contracts, as well as self-funded plans. This role is crucial in ensuring compliance with established underwriting policies, practices, and standards. The Associate Underwriter will be responsible for managing a block of business, which may include new or renewal accounts assigned to them. They will interpret risk and apply pricing policies to account for unusual situations, identifying questionable claim patterns that may arise on both in-force accounts and prospects. Additionally, the Associate Underwriter will need to recognize unusual situations that are not anticipated by standard pricing formulas and seek assistance in applying Corporate Risk Management policies as necessary. The position requires monitoring compliance with Corporate Underwriting policies and completing workload within established production and timeliness standards. The Associate Underwriter will also be expected to perform other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the underwriting team. This role is office-based, and while it does not require extensive travel, there may be occasional site visits. The position emphasizes ethical business practices and adherence to guidelines, ensuring that all actions align with the company's code of business conduct and legal standards.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Finance, Business, Computer Science or other quantitative analysis discipline.
  • 6 years of related experience in lieu of a Bachelor's Degree.

Nice-to-haves

  • 1 year of relevant insurance industry experience.
