About the position

When someone needs insurance coverage for the unique, the unusual, or the unconventional, they come to Burns & Wilcox. Our Associate Underwriters directly service a book of business under the supervision of an Underwriter, offering the opportunity to learn the specialty insurance business and career advancements into an Underwriter role. This position is designed for individuals who are eager to develop their skills in the insurance industry and are looking for a pathway to advance their careers. As an Associate Underwriter, you will be responsible for servicing a book of business, which includes logging applications, preparing binders, and processing policies and endorsements. You will also be involved in binding risk, posting invoices, and processing technical data. A key part of your role will be screening renewal applications, sending out renewal letters, and performing some of the underwriting tasks while preparing quotes for underwriter approval. Additionally, you will assist with new business development, order and follow up on inspections, and handle endorsement requests and referrals for the underwriter. Building and managing relationships with retail agents will also be a crucial aspect of your responsibilities, ensuring that all outstanding information needed to complete the underwriting file is followed up on promptly.

Responsibilities

  • Service a book of business under the direct supervision of an underwriter

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Insurance experience in underwriting and/or brokerage support with excess & surplus lines preferred
  • Sales & marketing experience preferred
  • Be technologically savvy and data driven
