About the position

The Associate Underwriter at Highmark Health is responsible for analyzing risk factors associated with new enrollments, annual renewals, and amendments of group or individual insurance contracts. This role ensures compliance with established underwriting policies and standards while managing a block of business, interpreting risk, and applying pricing policies. The position requires attention to detail and the ability to identify unusual situations that may not be covered by standard pricing formulas.

Responsibilities

• Analyze risk factors for new enrollment and annual renewals of insurance contracts.
• Manage a block of business for new or renewing accounts assigned.
• Interpret risk and apply pricing policies to account for unusual situations.
• Identify questionable claim patterns on inforce accounts or prospects.
• Monitor compliance with Corporate Underwriting policies.
• Complete workload within established production and timeliness standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Finance, Business, Computer Science, or other quantitative analysis discipline (or 6 years of related experience in lieu of a Bachelor's Degree).
• Basic analytical skills.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to manage several simultaneous priorities.
• Ability to use computer systems, electronic tools, and applications.
