About the position

The Associate Vice Chancellor and Chief of Staff to the Executive Vice Chancellor for Administration at Washington University in St. Louis serves as a senior advisor, providing oversight and leadership across various service areas to support the university's educational, research, and patient care missions. This role involves strategic planning, project management, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective operations and communication within the university's administration.

Responsibilities

  • Develop strategic and long-term planning initiatives to support the CAO's vision for the university.
  • Serve as the chief advisor to the CAO, providing necessary information and reports for effective policy development.
  • Manage high-priority projects that align with the university's mission and strategic vision.
  • Represent the CAO in various departments and external conversations, conveying strategic complexities.
  • Communicate vision and decisions to the CAO's executive team, providing updates and facilitating feedback.
  • Prepare presentations, reports, and correspondence for the CAO, managing their presentation schedule.
  • Lead and implement strategic process improvements and operational change management initiatives.
  • Analyze data to identify gaps and recommend improvements for operational efficiency.
  • Ensure initiatives promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the university community.
  • Monitor and review administration departments for policy and fiscal operations, assisting with budget development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 10 years of progressively responsible leadership experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • MBA or Master's degree with 8 years of leadership experience preferred.
  • Previous Chief of Staff experience is a plus.
  • Experience in higher education or similar complex enterprises is desirable.
  • Knowledge in administrative services, campus services, HR, or IT is beneficial.
  • Demonstrated success working with underserved populations.
