About the position

The Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Learning Design is responsible for overseeing the strategic planning, development, and implementation of high-quality learning experiences across various educational formats. This fully remote position involves collaboration with subject matter experts, instructional designers, and multimedia specialists to create engaging and effective learning experiences. The AVP manages the entire learning design and production process, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and learner needs while reporting directly to the Division VP of Academic Affairs.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a vision for the Learning Design and Production team that aligns in-class teaching methodology with the broader curriculum strategy and institutional goals.
  • Create the instructional methodology, development protocol, and quality standards that ensure intentional integration of best practices and current research into course and program design.
  • Lead curriculum development and instructional design processes for traditional, blended, and online programs; curate and manage classroom technology to ensure high-quality experiences for both students and faculty, alignment with curriculum goals, full utilization, and systems security.
  • Collaborate with faculty on the design of highly engaging instructional elements that lead to high rates of student success measured by student satisfaction, retention, graduation, licensure pass rates, and employment rates.
  • Collaborate with academic stakeholders on the planning of content strategy, technology integration, program development and integrated learning experiences.
  • Develop project management workflows that establish timelines, stakeholder communication plans, and milestones that ensure new program and course revision curriculum projects meet all implementation deadlines and stakeholders are well informed.
  • Direct the design and production of new courses, programs, and instructional materials from concept through delivery.
  • Collaborate with faculty and subject matter experts to create engaging, research-based learning experiences.
  • Ensure adherence to project timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Establish quality assurance processes and metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of learning design and production.
  • Analyze learning outcomes and feedback to drive iterative improvements.
  • Develop a system for organizing, archiving, and versioning of instructional assets.
  • Oversee the curation of technology utilized in the classrooms ensuring a quality experience for students and faculty, a direct alignment to the goals of the curriculum, full utilization, and systems security.
  • Stay informed of industry best practices, trends, and emerging technologies in learning design and educational technology.
  • Utilize an evidence-based approach to continual improvement.
  • Partner with academic departments, administrators, and external stakeholders to identify needs and opportunities for learning innovation.
  • Serve as a key liaison with external vendors and partners involved in learning design and technology solutions.
  • Establish/maintain a high performance team of professional, motivated and engaged staff utilizing effective training, performance management and career-development activities while leading them to achieve established business results and performance metrics.
  • Recognizes and rewards employee contributions and achievements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Education, Education Technology, or related field (required); Master's degree (preferred).
  • Minimum of five (5) years leading higher education instructional design and production teams at scale.
  • Minimum ten (10) years progressive experience in education including instructional design.
  • Proven experience leading diverse teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to oversee multiple and complex projects simultaneously.
  • Strong practical knowledge of and experience with learning theory, principles of instructional design, and quality frameworks.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of learning programs and make data-informed decisions.
  • Experience differentiating and integrating best practices in instructional design related to traditional, blended, and online modalities.
  • Experience with techniques for integration of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) into instructional design.
  • Well versed in universal design and accessibility that aligns with the most current updates to Section 508.
  • Proactive in exploring new instructional methodologies and technologies.
  • Strong experience with learning management systems and closely track implications and opportunities related to emerging technologies.
  • Excellent communication skills for collaborating with faculty, executives, and stakeholders.
