About the position

The Associate Vice President (AVP) of Facilities and Operations at the University of Maine oversees the university's physical plant, trade services, custodial operations, grounds, construction, and deferred maintenance programs. This leadership role requires strategic and hands-on problem-solving, balancing long-term planning with daily operational needs. The AVP collaborates with university leaders to ensure exceptional customer service to faculty, staff, students, and community stakeholders while managing a significant budget and a large team across multiple locations.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of the University of Maine's physical plant and facilities operations.
  • Manage trade services, custodial/housekeeping, grounds, and construction activities.
  • Administer the deferred maintenance program and related budgets.
  • Lead and manage departmental staff, ensuring effective operations and service delivery.
  • Collaborate with the Vice President of Administration and Finance and Chief Business Officer on strategic initiatives.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to faculty, staff, students, and community stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in construction management, architecture, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Ten years of progressive management experience in facilities management.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel as needed.
