About the position

Colorado State University (CSU) is seeking a highly qualified and innovative leader for the role of Associate Vice President (AVP) of Facilities Operations. This position is pivotal in shaping and advancing the institution's facilities management goals, ensuring that operations support academic and institutional priorities. The AVP of Facilities Operations will report directly to the Vice President for University Operations and Chief Financial Officer and will co-lead the Facilities Management division alongside the Associate Vice President of Capital Planning and Programming. This role requires an experienced professional capable of managing a complex organization and collaborating with other high-level professionals both within and outside the Division of University Operations. The AVP FO will be responsible for directing Operations Management, which includes building services, trades, logistics, customer service, district energy, utility services, and outdoor services. Additionally, the role encompasses oversight of Remodel and Construction Services and Facilities Management Administration, which includes human resources, finance, and information technology. This senior leadership position demands a commitment to high professional standards, responsiveness, and the ability to lead at an executive level while also engaging directly in projects as needed. The AVP FO will play an integral role in the university's pursuit of excellence in all programs, whether directly or indirectly related to its academic, research, service, and outreach missions. The successful candidate will be expected to envision and implement long-term strategies that align with the university's mission and objectives, ensuring that facilities operations not only meet current needs but also anticipate future requirements. This includes directing budget planning and resource allocation, driving operational efficiency, and addressing emerging challenges with innovative solutions. The AVP FO must establish and maintain productive working relationships with various university units to develop solutions and secure organizational buy-in, all while promoting an equitable and inclusive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Direct Operations Management, including building services, trades, logistics, customer service, district energy, utility services, and outdoor services.
  • Direct Remodel and Construction Services.
  • Direct Facilities Management Administration, including human resources, finance, and information technology.
  • Lead and manage large-scale facilities operations, including financial management, planning, and execution.
  • Develop collaborative partnerships among diverse groups, both internal and external to the organization.
  • Guide and develop a high-performing team, fostering collaboration across departments.
  • Manage complex projects and initiatives, ensuring alignment with the university's mission and objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, construction management, engineering, sustainability, planning, public administration or related field.
  • 10 years of progressively responsible experience in complex facilities operations in areas such as operations management, remodel and construction services, and facilities administration.
  • Experience leading and managing large-scale facilities operations, including financial acumen in budgeting and cost control.
  • Experience managing, leading, and motivating large teams.
  • Experience interacting with senior executives and stakeholders, including briefing and presenting to executive leadership.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced degree in business administration, construction management, engineering, sustainability, planning, public administration, or related field.
  • 15 years of progressively responsible experience in complex facilities operations.
  • Senior leadership experience in a university or large complex organization.
  • Knowledge of higher education issues, policies, and procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience in driving change initiatives and implementing new technologies.
