About the position

The Associate Vice President or Vice President of Immunology Research at Lilly will lead a team of scientists focused on developing next-generation therapies for autoimmune patients, particularly in T cell biology. This role involves guiding research efforts, shaping portfolio strategies, and mentoring future scientific leaders while ensuring alignment with the company's immunology priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise a team of scientists focused on T cell biology and in vivo pharmacology.
  • Foster teamwork, scientific rigor, innovation, and a culture of high cadence scientific excellence across a portfolio of complex research programs.
  • Ensure the team delivers strong data packages to facilitate informed decisions on candidate molecules.
  • Align project team focus with the target product profile that supports the Immunology strategy.
  • Provide scientific guidance throughout the development of projects.
  • Oversee in vivo pharmacology team activities and resources, ensuring alignment with Immunology priorities.
  • Mentor the next generation of project leaders.
  • Contribute to research study reports, manuscripts for publication, and presentations for scientific conferences.
  • Collaborate with Immunology research and clinical leaders to develop strategies for T cell therapies.
  • Support external innovation and business development strategy with a focus on T cells.
  • Engage in diligence activities related to business development initiatives.
  • Oversee external research collaborations relevant to the T cell Immunology portfolio.
  • Ensure effective collaboration among teams to meet objectives aligned with Immunology strategy.
  • Create and track personal development plans for team members that align with immunology's strategy and business needs.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. and relevant post-doctoral training in immunology, molecular biology, or related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology companies.
  • Demonstrated success through publications and/or patents in discovering and developing candidate molecules for autoimmune diseases.
  • Experience in dermatology, rheumatology, inflammatory bowel diseases, and/or fibrosis.
  • Experience working with and developing in vivo pharmacology models pertinent to immunology drug discovery and development.
  • Experience in preclinical data package generation to support IND submissions.
  • Skilled in assembling and overseeing large, diverse, and high-performing scientific teams.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to enhance team culture and exhibit intellectual and strategic flexibility in a fast-paced environment.
  • Impeccable organizational skills.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in discovery and development of novel modalities including antibody-conjugates and bispecific antibodies.
  • Experience working with and developing humanized mouse models for immunology research.
  • Experience with regulatory submissions beyond IND.
