About the position

The Associated Students Programs and Communications Coordinator at California State University, Monterey Bay is responsible for overseeing student programming and communications within the Associated Students (AS). This role involves advising student leaders, managing marketing operations, and ensuring effective programmatic initiatives that enhance student engagement and success. The coordinator will work closely with various campus departments and provide guidance on event planning, risk management, and budgetary practices, all while fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment for students.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary advisor and supervisor to the AS Programming Board and student assistants.
  • Act as a liaison between AS and various campus departments, including University Affairs and Risk Management.
  • Oversee the development and effectiveness of AS publications, websites, and social media initiatives.
  • Plan leadership development activities for AS student leaders in collaboration with senior coordinators.
  • Provide training and advising to AS student employees in event planning and budgeting.
  • Monitor programmatic operations and ensure compliance with CSU and AS policies.
  • Conduct assessments of AS programming and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Support the management of the Otter Media Station and oversee student volunteers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience.
  • Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations.
  • Strong analytical skills to evaluate data and make presentations.
  • Experience in advising students individually and in groups.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in student activities and event management.
  • Familiarity with social media and marketing platforms.
  • Knowledge of California State University policies and procedures.
  • Technical fluency with software such as Microsoft Suite and Oracle/PeopleSoft.
