About the position

The Assistant Director of Payroll is a key leadership position within the district, responsible for overseeing and ensuring the smooth and accurate processing of payroll. This individual plays a critical role in maintaining compliance with various regulations and agreements, while also leading and supporting the payroll team. This position ensures all payroll practices are in compliance with federal and state regulations, including tax laws, labor laws, and applicable negotiated agreements with unions.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and ensure accurate processing of payroll.
  • Maintain compliance with federal and state regulations, including tax and labor laws.
  • Lead and support the payroll team.
  • Ensure payroll practices comply with negotiated agreements with unions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three to five years of progressively responsible payroll experience in a large, complex organization.
  • At least two years of lead or supervisory experience in a multi-union, computerized payroll environment.
  • Strong understanding of Washington State payroll regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in payroll software and systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • WA State school district experience is desirable, though not required.
