About the position

The Assistant Operations Manager at Ports America Shared Services, Inc. is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of labor and staff within the rail ports. This role involves managing personnel, ensuring compliance with safety programs, and maintaining effective communication between labor and management. The position requires a flexible schedule and the ability to make sound decisions to optimize operational efficiency and meet customer needs.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively manage the work activities of the Foreman, Labor, and other personnel to meet performance expectations and customer needs.
  • Determine daily labor requirements and ensure appropriate staffing for assigned areas.
  • Make decisions regarding overtime costs and general expenditures in the best interests of the company and customers.
  • Ensure payroll accuracy and make necessary changes as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with the company's Safety program and accident prevention procedures.
  • Work closely with M&R/Terminal Departments to allocate equipment according to operational demands.
  • Maintain positive relations with labor and ensure adherence to Collective Bargaining Agreements.
  • Address performance issues of employees and impose corrective action when necessary.
  • Advise leadership on labor matters and assist in resolving complaints and grievances.
  • Participate in training and provide feedback to labor and management staff.
  • Communicate accountability and performance expectations to staff.
  • Develop and improve operating and administrative procedures to facilitate internal practices.
  • Ensure certifications and required training for staff are current.
  • Follow company policies and procedures, ensuring timely and accurate report submissions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in any discipline or equivalent combinations of education and experience.
  • Experience with Computerized Operating Systems.
  • Obtain a TWIC Card issued by the Department of Homeland Security.
  • Valid US Driver's License.
