About the position

The Assistant Robotics & Automation Engineering Project Manager will provide technical expertise and engineering support for the Robotic Systems Laboratory (RSL) at Santa Clara University. This role involves assisting in the management of lab and external grants, engaging with stakeholders, and supporting the development of advanced robotic systems and technologies. The position requires collaboration with faculty and staff, as well as participation in research and development activities related to robotic control, perception technologies, and system integration.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the program management of lab and external grants/contract and related engineering activities.
  • Engage stakeholders and sponsors to identify needs and collaboratively develop systems/capabilities.
  • Manage and participate in the preparation of program documentation, meetings, presentations, and reports.
  • Collaborate with faculty/staff in developing tutorials and teaching materials for robotic technologies.
  • Assist with lab/facility management duties including equipment and safety protocols.
  • Support advanced engineering work in the development of robotic systems and components.
  • Develop pilot/operator/supervisor control systems for remote robotic systems.
  • Perform R&D activities related to multi-robot control and cobot design.
  • Research and prototype new techniques in control, AI, and perception systems.
  • Document designs and findings using project development systems.

Requirements

  • M.S. in engineering or a related field required.
  • 6 years of experience developing/analyzing mechatronic and robotic systems.
  • Knowledge of mechatronic system design, robotic analysis, and control.
  • Experience in software design tools and component system design.
  • Ability to learn and apply safety practices regarding manufacturing and machine operation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with ROS software framework.
  • Familiarity with AI software development tools like TensorFlow.
  • Experience in operating robotic manipulators and mobile platforms.
