About the position

The Assistant Store Manager at Dollar General plays a crucial role in maintaining a clean and organized store environment with a strong focus on customer service. This position involves assisting the Store Manager in supervising employees, managing merchandise, and ensuring the store operates efficiently to maximize profitability and customer satisfaction. The Assistant Store Manager is also responsible for various operational tasks, including stocking, cashiering, and handling financial transactions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide superior customer service leadership by greeting and assisting customers.
  • Operate cash register and scanner to itemize customer purchases.
  • Open and close the store at least two days per week.
  • Assist Store Manager with employee scheduling and training.
  • Conduct safety meetings and ensure compliance with company policies.
  • Manage merchandise processes including receiving, unpacking, stocking, and building displays.
  • Maintain accurate inventory levels and control damages and markdowns.
  • Implement and maintain planograms as directed by the Store Manager.
  • Ensure financial integrity through cashier accountability and cash control procedures.
  • Assist in managing the store in the absence of the Store Manager.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
  • One year of experience in a retail environment preferred.
  • Six months of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to solve problems and handle various situations.
  • Good organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedures manuals.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations including percentages.
  • Knowledge of cash handling procedures and safety control policies.
