About The Position

The Business Consultant at Southern Arkansas University is responsible for providing consulting services to small business owners and potential entrepreneurs, focusing on marketing strategies and business development. This full-time, grant-funded position aims to achieve performance measures and economic impact goals for the Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center (ASBTDC).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with significant coursework in business and marketing required.
  • Direct experience with business marketing and coordinating events required.
  • Experience using Canva is required.
  • Knowledge of marketing (online and offline), business planning, and financial management.
  • Experience in utilizing a variety of social media platforms for marketing purposes.
  • Knowledge of SEO and translating marketing activities to online sales.
  • Ability to assess and identify potential target markets and develop appropriate marketing tactics.
  • Ability to conduct and utilize market research effectively.
  • Ability to coordinate and implement training and events.
  • Ability to deliver training in a classroom setting.
  • Excellent writing, public speaking, and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required.
  • Must have own transportation and meet requirements to operate a vehicle on official state business.
  • Ability to conduct evening and weekend work as needed.
  • Ability to travel overnight and out-of-state as required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide consulting services to Arkansas entrepreneurs with an emphasis on marketing-related help.
  • Assist in the development of marketing strategies and marketing plans.
  • Assess current online and offline marketing activities.
  • Conduct and utilize market research to make recommendations.
  • Provide business plan guidance and loan proposal development assistance to small businesses.
  • Develop, coordinate, market, and implement program events in the assigned geographic territory.
  • Secure speakers and work with them to develop presentations for events.
  • Coordinate logistics and handle all reporting associated with program events.
  • Secure co-sponsorships by collaborating with community organizations.
  • Instruct small business training events and assist with curriculum development.
  • Develop and implement marketing for program events, including creating print and electronic collateral.
  • Write news releases and manage radio/newspaper advertising.
  • Create social media posts and conduct outreach within the business community.
  • Work with small business lenders to generate consulting referrals.
  • Maintain and document events and client records in accordance with program guidelines.
  • Assist in the implementation of the ASBTDC marketing plan.
  • Earn 32 hours of professional development annually as per organizational policies.
  • Adhere to university and ASBTDC conflict of interest standards and maintain confidentiality.
