About the position

Alluvionic is seeking an Astronaut Rescue and Recovery Operations Support Specialist to work onsite at Johnson Space Center, TX. This full-time role involves supporting the 1st Air Force (1AF), Detachment 3, and acting as a liaison between United States Space Command, 1 AF, and NASA's Artemis Program, Commercial Crew Program (CCP), and Soyuz Program. The position requires a Top Secret/SCI clearance and focuses on facilitating astronaut rescue operations following contingency landings or water landings.

Responsibilities

  • Support the employment of search and rescue aviation assets for astronaut rescue operations.
  • Collaborate with mission partners to integrate Air Force combat rescue tactics into astronaut rescue operations.
  • Modify strategies for astronaut search and rescue plans and communications.
  • Develop training documents and processes for aircrews on astronaut search and rescue procedures.
  • Facilitate training for astronauts on self-rescue techniques.
  • Document and implement processes to manage risks in aviation and astronaut rescue operations.
  • Determine interoperability of DoD rescue aircraft with Artemis and CCP equipment.
  • Provide recommendations to improve communication interoperability between rescue aircraft and crew modules.
  • Develop plans and procedures for Artemis end-of-mission recovery and contingency retrieval.
  • Assist in training logistics and exercises at Johnson Space Center.
  • Plan and participate in training and development test events for rescue and recovery.
  • Provide command and control recommendations for alert rescue forces.
  • Assist on-console activities at Mission Control Center during mission execution.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to NASA and DoD decision makers.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in DoD Survival or Personnel Recovery training and operations.
  • Previous experience as a rated officer (pilot or navigator), Guardian Angel, or in Special Operations.
  • Experience working in an Air Operations Center or equivalent staff.
  • Expert knowledge of military combat aviation or ground rescue tactics and procedures.
  • Ability to collaborate with mission partners on various operational strategies and training plans.
  • Ability to work independently and manage complex problems effectively.
  • Ability to produce high-quality documentation and recommendations.

Nice-to-haves

  • BA or BS degree
  • Previously served at the Joint Personnel Recovery Agency or similar organizations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to build teams and maintain relationships with military and interagency personnel.
