About the position

The Athletic Band Director is responsible for overseeing the athletic band program, which includes managing rehearsals, performances, and the overall direction of the band. This position requires a strong background in music education and performance, as well as experience in leading and organizing a band program. The director will work closely with student musicians to develop their skills and foster a positive and inclusive environment that encourages participation and excellence in performance. The Athletic Band Director will also collaborate with other departments and athletic teams to enhance school spirit and community engagement through music. This role involves planning and executing performances at various athletic events, including football games, basketball games, and other school-related activities. The director will be expected to create engaging arrangements and coordinate with the band members to ensure high-quality performances that represent the school positively. In addition to musical direction, the Athletic Band Director will be responsible for administrative tasks such as budgeting for the band program, organizing travel for performances, and maintaining instruments and equipment. The director will also be involved in recruiting new members and promoting the band program within the school and the community. This position requires strong leadership skills, the ability to motivate students, and a passion for music education. The Athletic Band Director will play a crucial role in shaping the musical experience of student musicians and enhancing the overall athletic experience at the school.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of the athletic band program, including rehearsals and performances.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Music Education or a related field.
  • Experience in conducting and leading a band program at the high school or collegiate level.
  • Strong proficiency in playing multiple instruments, particularly brass and woodwinds.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and the community.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Music Education or a related field.
  • Experience with marching band and drill design.
  • Knowledge of music technology and software for arranging and composing music.
  • Previous experience in a leadership role within a music program.
