About the position

The Athletic Coach (Certified CCPS Employee) position is designed for individuals who are passionate about sports and education, providing oversight and assistance to the Head Coach in delivering effective coaching to K-12 secondary school age children. This role involves supervising and training student athletes, ensuring they develop their skills according to their abilities while encouraging them to maintain active participation in sports. The coach will be responsible for delivering core movement and sport-specific skills training, fostering a positive and engaging environment for students to thrive in their athletic pursuits. As an Assistant Coach, the individual will report directly to the Head Coach, who in turn reports to the School Site Athletic Director. The responsibilities include instructing students on the fundamentals of various sports, collaborating with the coaching staff to establish rules and regulations for the team, and assisting in the registration of athletes. The coach will also help in the systematic issuance of equipment, coordinate try-outs, and supervise practice schedules. A significant aspect of the role is to guide and encourage student athletes in making informed decisions about their participation in sports, ensuring that their involvement aligns with their abilities and interests. The position requires close collaboration with other staff members to coordinate activities and opportunities for student athletes. The coach will also work with external partners to monitor the impact of sports delivery and promote healthy lifestyles among students. The role encompasses a variety of duties that may be assigned as needed to fulfill the responsibilities of coaching and supervision effectively.

Responsibilities

• Instructs and coaches K-12 students on the fundamentals of sports.
• Works with the coaching staff to set rules, policies, and regulations for the team.
• Assists the Head Coach in the proper registration of athletes.
• Assists the Head Coach in the systematic issuance of equipment.
• Coordinates and supervises try-outs under the Head Coach's guidance.
• Coordinates and supervises practice schedules as assigned by the Head Coach.
• Supervises athletes and teams assigned, ensuring safety and compliance with regulations.
• Guides and encourages student athletes to make appropriate decisions about their participation in sports.
• Collaborates with other staff to coordinate completion and opportunities for student athletes.
• Monitors the impact of sports delivery and promotes healthy lifestyles among students.

Requirements

• State of Georgia Teaching Certificate T-4 to T-7
• Experience in coaching or playing the sport preferred
• Experience with inventory of equipment and scheduling preferred
• Ability to manage projects and duties with minimal supervision
• Ability to effectively manage time and priorities
• Strong teamwork and communication skills
• Analytical skills with an emphasis on safety precautions
• Excellent interpersonal skills for working with intra-organizational teams
