About the position

The Head Boys Swimming Coach at Mayport Coastal Sciences Middle is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the boys swimming program, ensuring compliance with district policies and athletic regulations. This role includes enforcing training rules, supervising athletes, and promoting their academic progress while fostering a positive athletic environment.

Responsibilities

• Announce and enforce rules pertaining to conditioning of players and training rules affecting health and safety.
• Attend mandatory FHSAA rules clinics and Gateway Conference meetings for professional development.
• Cooperate with the athletic director to establish physical examinations and ensure compliance with health forms.
• Conduct and supervise at least one fundraising activity for the sport.
• Ensure team supervision at all times, including locker room oversight and post-practice pick-up.
• Know and enforce rules and regulations required by Title IX, FHSAA, and the Duval County School Board.
• Monitor academic progress of each team member weekly.
• Organize practice and game responsibilities clearly understood by all involved.
• Report injuries to the athletic trainer and complete necessary forms for serious injuries.
• Support and actively participate in improving the athletic program and overall educational program.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Previous experience preferred as an athletic coach or in the coaching arena.
• Completion of required athletic coaching courses including First Aid, CPR, Sudden Cardiac Arrest, and Concussion in Sports (NFHS courses), AED training, and Florida Department of Education Certificate (Athletic Coaching).
• Knowledge of the sport and associated strategies.
• Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Strong word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software skills.
• Strong leadership and creative problem-solving skills.
• Strong time management and organizational skills.
• Ability to conduct staff meetings and manage all aspects of tryouts, practices, team meetings, and contests.
• Ability to serve as a role model for student-athletes and motivate them to perform their best.
