About the position

The Athletic Director/Dean of Students plays a crucial role in the management and oversight of the athletic programs and student discipline within the school. This position is under the direct supervision of the Executive Director or their designee and encompasses a wide range of responsibilities aimed at ensuring the smooth operation of interscholastic athletics for grades 6-12, as well as maintaining a comprehensive discipline program for students in grades TK-8. The Athletic Director is tasked with planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating the athletic program, ensuring that it meets the needs of the students and the school community. This includes organizing all interscholastic athletic events, maintaining relationships with stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with eligibility requirements for student-athletes. In addition to the athletic responsibilities, the Dean of Students is responsible for overseeing student discipline, which involves addressing behavioral issues, implementing disciplinary measures, and fostering a positive school environment. The role requires collaboration with school administration to develop and enforce rules and regulations that govern student conduct, both in and out of the athletic context. The Athletic Director/Dean of Students must also conduct regular evaluations of the athletic program, making recommendations for improvements and adjustments as necessary to enhance the overall experience for student-athletes and maintain high standards of conduct and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Organizing and administering the overall program of interscholastic athletics for grades 6-12.
  • Representing the school and attending meetings related to athletics.
  • Maintaining a positive working relationship with stakeholders, including students, parents, and staff.
  • Developing and implementing rules, regulations, and procedures governing the conduct of athletes.
  • Maintaining records for coaching qualifications and first aid certifications.
  • Conducting ongoing reviews and annual evaluations of the interscholastic program, making recommendations for changes as appropriate.
  • Meeting with high school administration to plan and implement improvements in the athletic program.
  • Organizing and scheduling all interscholastic athletic events.
  • Arranging field and gymnasium practice schedules for interscholastic programs.
  • Arranging transportation for participants in athletic events.
  • Administering and enforcing eligibility requirements for participation in each sport, verifying athlete eligibility across marking periods/trimesters.
  • Approving and coordinating arrangements for non-school use of playing fields and facilities.
  • Overseeing all matters of student discipline for grades TK-8.
  • Resolving disciplinary issues and implementing appropriate measures.
