About the position

The Athletic Director/Transportation Director is responsible for overseeing the athletic program and transportation services within the school district. This role involves coordinating activities, ensuring compliance with regulations, and maintaining records for both athletic and transportation departments. The position requires strong organizational skills and a commitment to student-focused education.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the planning and implementation of all activities in the athletic program
  • Continuously assess the needs and successes of all aspects of the Athletic Department
  • Schedule all interscholastic athletic activities for the school district
  • Coordinate facility usage
  • Oversee athletic contests and ensure the overall smooth operation of the athletic program
  • Represent Westville Schools at conferences and meetings dealing with athletics
  • Maintain accurate records
  • Coordinate fundraising efforts
  • Evaluate coaching applicants
  • Conduct annual evaluations on coaches
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant rules and regulations
  • Maintain academic eligibility records
  • Promote equality and fairness for all athletic teams and participants
  • Bring a passion for student-focused education
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills
  • Commit to maintaining the highest standards of professional conduct within the Athletic Department
  • Responsible for securing all officials for all athletic contests
  • Coordinate, in conjunction with the Superintendent, all necessary maintenance preparation for athletic practices and contests
  • Keep accurate athletic records relative to equipment inventories, lockers/locks, contest results, team accomplishments, overall team records, etc.
  • Attend all athletic contests as reasonable as possible
  • Supervise the athletic booster club and coordinate its support of athletic programs
  • Supervise the distribution and sale of all tickets related to athletic activities
  • Supervise all fundraising efforts involving athletic teams and organizations
  • Evaluate all requests for athletic uniforms, equipment, or materials
  • Coordinate, in conjunction with the Superintendent, the annual athletic budget, and ensure that the Athletic Department is financially stable at all times
  • Supervise all aspects of the cheerleading and pom pon programs
  • Ensure that all coaches maintain the highest standards of professional conduct and comply with all IHSAA, conference, and school corporation rules and regulations
  • Establish and periodically assess short and long-range goals of the Athletic Department
  • Coordinate and facilitate all summer athletic camps, practices, and programs
  • Coordinate the transportation needs of all athletic teams and contests
  • Assist in securing and selecting coaching applicants
  • Conduct annual written evaluations on all coaches
  • Maintain accurate records and physicals on all student/athletes, and certify each athlete's academic eligibility
  • Annually review and update, as needed, the Athletic Code of Conduct, and ensure it is enforced consistently and equitably to all student-athletes
  • Ensure that all athletic teams and participants are treated equally and fairly, especially in regards to Title IX issues
  • Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent and/or MS/HS Principal
  • Plan, coordinate and oversee the routing, scheduling and daily transportation services including regular and special education, contract services of the department
  • Oversee the daily operations of the dispatch office
  • Train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of assigned staff including bus drivers
  • Communicate with school site staff, administrators, parents and outside agencies to exchange information, coordinate activities and resolve issues
  • Record field trip requests and supervise distribution of trips to drivers
  • Coordinate repairs and preventative maintenance of buses and other vehicles
  • Attend meetings, conferences and workshops to maintain current knowledge of safety and transportation codes
  • Schedule and conduct training sessions for bus drivers
  • Prepare and maintain records and reports related to routing, schedules, accidents and other transportation services
  • Respond to drivers' accidents and conduct internal accident investigations
  • Make recommendations for the purchase of transportation supplies, materials and equipment
  • Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent and/or Dir. of Operations

Requirements

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Athletic and transportation experience preferred
  • Experience working with children and adolescents preferred
  • Possess such other qualifications as may be deemed desirable by the Board of School Trustees or the Superintendent of Schools
