About the position

The Athletic Director/Elementary PE Teacher at Kings Valley Charter School is a dual-role position that combines the responsibilities of teaching physical education to elementary students and overseeing the athletic programs of the school. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a genuine passion for teaching and a commitment to fostering a positive and engaging learning environment for all students. The PE Teacher will be responsible for creating a student-centered classroom that facilitates physical, cognitive, and social-emotional learning through well-structured lessons. These lessons will be designed to sequentially develop skills appropriate to each student's ability and confidence levels, ensuring maximum participation and success for all learners. In addition to teaching, the Athletic Director will coordinate and maintain inventory for all sports, manage the logistics of athletic events, and ensure the safety and eligibility of student-athletes. This role requires strong organizational skills to oversee transportation scheduling, monitor attendance and academic progress of athletes, and manage ticket sales and personnel for sporting events. The Athletic Director will also be involved in recruiting and evaluating coaches, maintaining an athletic handbook, and supporting student retention strategies. The position requires collaboration with parents, school counselors, and administrators to communicate student progress and to plan experiential learning activities such as field trips and guest speaker visits. The successful candidate will also be expected to attend professional meetings and training workshops to enhance their teaching and leadership skills. This role is essential in promoting a culture of health, wellness, and academic excellence within the school community.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates motivation and enthusiasm with a genuine passion for teaching all learners.
  • Creates a student-centered classroom that facilitates physical, cognitive, and social-emotional learning.
  • Provides engaging, fun, and effective instruction that helps build a health and wellness foundation for students.
  • Establishes and enforces rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among students.
  • Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness using the Oregon Core Standards.
  • Implements Oregon Core Standards with rigor, purpose, and planning.
  • Provides maximum participation for all students and differentiates learning as needed.
  • Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement.
  • Develops engaging and effective lesson plans and supplementary materials.
  • Provides ongoing formative feedback to students.
  • Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas.
  • Evaluates academic and social growth of students and keeps appropriate records including report cards and attendance records.
  • Communicates with parents, school counselors, and administrators on student progress.
  • Plans and supervises class projects, field trips, and other experiential activities.
  • Attends professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.
  • Coordinates and maintains inventory for all sports and supports the needs of all school athletic events.
  • Coordinates the certification of school-level student-athletes.
  • Monitors attendance and academic progress of all athletes and prepares squad lists to verify student-athlete eligibility.
  • Organizes and manages ticket sales, scorekeepers, gym managers, and other personnel needed during sporting events.
  • Monitors, evaluates, and supports school athletic events and compiles a list of all athletic physicals and insurance for student eligibility.
  • Responsible for enforcing safety procedures.
  • Assists in the recruiting, hiring, and annual evaluation of all coaches.
  • Supervises and monitors students and supports student retention strategies.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • A current Oregon teaching license with applicable endorsement (preferred).
  • Experience teaching or coaching.
