About the position

The Athletic Director/Head Football Coach is responsible for directing and managing the district's athletic program and facilities while coaching students to develop their athletic skills. This role ensures compliance with all relevant regulations and provides opportunities for student participation in extracurricular activities. The position involves program planning, student management, communication with stakeholders, and administrative duties related to budgeting and inventory management.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and manage the district's athletic program and facilities.
  • Instruct and coach students to develop their athletic skills and abilities.
  • Establish performance criteria for competition and manage athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions.
  • Maintain an active program that promotes good sportsmanship and student development.
  • Establish and maintain physical and academic eligibility requirements for participation in each sport.
  • Manage district athletic operations including ticket sales and game official employment.
  • Prepare and approve all interscholastic game schedules.
  • Arrange transportation, lodging, and meals for out-of-town athletic events.
  • Implement district student management policies and ensure enforcement of student discipline.
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication with parents, students, and teachers.
  • Develop and administer budget based on documented needs and ensure cost-effective operations.
  • Supervise, evaluate, and recommend hiring of coaches and support staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate
  • Current first aid, CPR, and AED certification
  • Clear and valid Texas commercial driver's license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements (optional)
  • Knowledge of overall operations of an athletic program
  • Knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures
  • Ability to instruct and supervise student athletes
  • Ability to manage budget and personnel
  • Excellent public relations, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in teaching and coaching
  • Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests and annual physical
