The Athletic Director will administer all Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association (DIAA) and school district athletic policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with regulations and standards. The position requires attendance at all DIAA and other relevant meetings pertaining to athletics, which is essential for staying updated on policies and best practices. In addition to administrative duties, the Athletic Director will be responsible for scheduling CPR classes for coaches and physical examinations for athletes, in accordance with state requirements. The role also involves reviewing and distributing the athletic handbook annually, checking the DIAA medical forms for all participants, and determining the scholastic eligibility of athletes on a marking period basis. Maintaining eligibility listings for all athletes and cheerleaders is a key responsibility, as is attending and supervising all home athletic contests or providing substitute coverage when necessary. The Athletic Director will also handle logistical aspects such as scheduling games, officials, and transportation, issuing contracts, and submitting information for payment of tournament entry fees. In cases of inclement weather or hazardous conditions, the Athletic Director will be responsible for canceling or postponing contests, officials, and transportation. Financial management is another critical aspect of the role, which includes preparing an annual budget and inventory for the athletic program, as well as overseeing the purchase, distribution, storage, and repair of all athletic equipment. Furthermore, the Athletic Director will develop and coordinate practice schedules for the use of facilities, form interview committees for coaching positions, and promote sportsmanship and publicity for all interscholastic sports teams. Maintaining records of contests, events, and letter winners, as well as supervising the awarding of certificates, letters, trophies, and other commendations to athletes, coaches, and school officials, are also essential functions of this position. The Athletic Director will serve as a liaison between coaches, administration, and the athletic booster club, attending booster club meetings and working closely with the school trainer to establish safe operational procedures for the training room.
