About the position

The Athletic Director at Pecos-Barstow-Toyah ISD is responsible for directing and managing the district's athletic programs and facilities, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations. This role focuses on providing opportunities for student participation in athletics while supporting the development of coaches and student-athletes. The position does not involve coaching duties but emphasizes leadership in athletic program management.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and manage the district's athletic programs and facilities.
  • Instruct and lead coaches in developing students' skills and abilities in athletics.
  • Provide opportunities for each student to participate in extracurricular athletic activities.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, UIL, and local requirements.

Requirements

  • Valid Texas teaching certificate
  • Master's degree
  • Valid Texas administrator certification
  • 5 years of successful teaching and coaching experience
  • Current first aid, CPR, and AED certification
  • Clear and valid Texas commercial driver's license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements (preferred)
  • Knowledge of the overall operations of an athletic program
  • Knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and UIL policies governing athletics
  • Ability to instruct and supervise student-athletes
  • Excellent public relations, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of students, parents, and staff.

Nice-to-haves

  • National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) Certification (preferred)
