About the position

The Athletic Director at Central Alabama Community College is responsible for overseeing and managing all athletic-related functions within the college. This includes strategic planning, budget management, compliance with NJCAA and ACCC regulations, and supervision of coaching staff. The role requires collaboration with various departments to ensure the success and integrity of the athletic programs.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage athletic-related functions at the College.
  • Assist the Dean of Students with the ongoing development of the athletic program.
  • Approve and coordinate eligibility submissions and required forms for all sports.
  • Approve athletic practice and game schedules.
  • Coordinate submission of annual budgets to Dean of Students.
  • Attend NJCAA and ACCS conferences and meetings, keeping coaches and Dean of Students updated on required reporting and regulations.
  • Maintain official student athletic files to meet NJCAA requirements.
  • Oversee the academic progress of student athletes.
  • Approve transportation requests for student athletes.
  • Work collaboratively with various campus departments.
  • Ensure inventory, security, and maintenance of athletic equipment and facilities.
  • Approve and monitor fundraising efforts and purchases for athletics.
  • Conduct annual performance evaluations on Athletic Department staff.
  • Facilitate monthly Athletic Department staff meetings.
  • Approve drug screening procedures for student athletes.
  • Approve submission of information for the Student Athletic Handbook to the Dean of Students.
  • Approve game day managers for coaches and coordinate medical coverage for games as required by ACCC and NJCAA policies.
  • Report any violations of ACCC, NJCAA, and College policy to Dean of Students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned that pertain to the position.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree from an accredited college or university is required.
  • Minimum of three years' experience coaching and/or managing collegiate athletics is required.
  • Knowledge of NCAA and NJCAA policy is required.
  • Experience preparing and managing budgets is required.
  • Excellent functional knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is required.
  • Ability to travel to and from campus locations and attend activities and events during evenings and weekends is required.
  • Ability to work in a high-demand collaborative team environment and manage multiple priorities is required.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and provide excellent customer service is required.
  • Ability to read and understand complex policies and procedures is required.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are required.
  • Excellent organizational and managerial skills are required.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and analyze data is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience managing college athletic programs is preferred.
  • Experience in fundraising is preferred.
