About the position

The Athletic Director at Southwest Virginia Community College is responsible for planning, coordinating, and managing the athletic program in compliance with National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) regulations. This role involves supervising coaches, work-study students, and part-time employees, ensuring the effective operation of the athletic department while promoting student-athlete success and community engagement.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, and manage the athletic program according to NJCAA regulations.
• Supervise coaches, work-study students, and part-time employees assigned to the athletic program.
• Arrange travel and scheduling for athletic events and teams.
• Maintain records and prepare reports related to the athletic program.
• Manage the budget preparation and maintenance for the athletic department.
• Communicate effectively with students, parents, and the public regarding athletic programs and events.
• Coordinate with public relations and media for promotions of athletic events and student-athletes.
• Negotiate transfer cases with 4-year institutions under NJCAA and NCAA regulations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
• Experience in coaching and coordination of sports and student activities.
• Knowledge of athletic programs, rules, regulations, and budget management.
• Ability to instruct students in various athletic activities.
• Experience in supervising personnel and managing operational work requirements.
• Strong communication skills with students, parents, and the public.

Nice-to-haves

• Master's degree in physical education, recreation, sports management, or a related field.
• CPR and emergency-related certifications.
